Strahov Stadium in Prague

The Great Strahov Stadium (Velky Strahovsky Stadion) is according to some resources the largest stadium in the world, though it doesn’t operate as a sports stadium any more. In the recent years Strahov Stadium has been a training centre for footbal club Sparta Praha and has also hosted many concerts – among them Pink Floyd or Rolling Stones in the 1990’s with attendance over 100,000 each. Next to the Great Strahov Stadium there is another stadium of normal size, which is still being used for sports events, especially football and athletics.

Prague Strahov Stadium location

Strahov Stadium is situated in a very pleasant part of Prague near the top of Petrin Hill and not far from Prague Castle. The nearest public transport hub is Malovanka (trams); the nearest metro station is Andel (but not really close). Important streets near Strahov Stadium are Belohorska, Vanickova, and Atleticka. There is also a large student dormitory in Strahov.

Hotels close to Prague Strahov Stadium

There are no hotels immediately next to Strahov Stadium, but you will find many hotels within 10-15 minutes walk. If you look at a map of Strahov and nearby areas, the hotels are arranged in a half circle around Strahov Stadium.

The half circle starts in Belohorska Street near Malovanka tram stop and passes Strahov Monastery (5-8 minutes walk from Great Strahov Stadium), Pohorelec, Uvoz, and Prague Castle.

There you are already in Lesser Quarter, which has the highest density of hotels among the areas near Strahov. The most popular hotel locations in Lesser Quarter are Nerudova Street, Malostranske Namesti (the square with St. Nicholas Church), Karmelitska Street (the street with Infant Jesus of Prague), and Ujezd (the street with the bottom station of Petrin Funicular, which is the fastest way how to get from the city centre to Strahov).

From Ujezd on, the concentration of hotels goes down a bit, but the hotel stripe passes Kinsky Garden and continues up to Andel Metro Station in Smichov.

Room rates tend to be the highest near Prague Castle (where most hotels are 4 star or 5 star hotels) and relatively low around Andel.
