Namesti Republiky metro station: location and basic information

Namesti Republiky (Square)

Namesti Republiky is one of the most important squares in Prague city centre, located at the eastern border of Prague Old Town. Several major streets meet at Namesti Republiky: Na Prikope (the most famous – and expensive – shopping street), Revolucni, Na Porici, and V Celnici. Several landmarks and remarkable buildings are located at or near Namesti Republiky: Prague Stock Exchange, Czech National Bank, Powder Gate, Municipal House, Hybernia Theatre, and the shopping centres Palladium and Kotva. Namesti Republiky is about 5 minutes walk from Old Town Square and about 8 minutes from Wenceslas Square.

Namesti Republiky Metro Station

The metro station Namesti Republiky is on line B (yellow) between Florenc and Mustek. There are two different exits, one on each side of Namesti Republiky metro station. One exit leads to Namesti Republiky (the square) itself. Use this exit to get to Prague Old Town, Municipal House, or Na Prikope Street. The other exit goes to Masarykovo Nadrazi (Masaryk Train Station) and Havlickova Street. besides the metro there are frequent tram and bus services at Namesti Republiky.

Namesti Republiky and the adjacent streets form the prime hotel district in Prague. The proximity of Old Town (which is mostly pedestrian only and sometimes not as convenient in terms of transportation), combined with excellent public transport access, plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars, make it a popular place to stay. Most hotels near Namesti Republiky Station are in the upper quality (and price) levels. The concentration of 5 star hotels near Namesti Republiky is probably higher than in any other place in Prague.

Five star hotels near Namesti Republiky

Some of Prague’s best known, oldest, and most prestigeous hotels are situated at or near Namesti Republiky. Directly at the square there is the recently renovated 5* Kings Court Hotel. Between Kings Court and Prague Municipal House there is another 5 star hotel, Hotel Paris, built in 1904 in Neo-Gothic style. Behind the Powder Gate in the Old Town, there is Grand Hotel Bohemia, another traditional luxury hotel. Several good 5 star hotels are located on the other side, between Namesti Republiky and Florenc or Masaryk Station: for example, Art Deco Imperial Hotel in Na Porici Street or Hilton Prague Old Town and Prague Marriott facing one another in V Celnici Street.

While most of the 5 star hotels can be found either around the Municipal House or in the streets V Celnici or Na Porici, there are many 3 star and 4 star hotels in the streets between Namesti Republiky and the Vltava River, e.g. Revolucni, Dlouha, Rybna, or Klimentska.

Where to find budget hotels near Namesti Republiky

Namesti Republiky and Old Town are not cheap hotel areas and if your budget it limited, finding accommodation here can be challenging. There are several affordable hotels in the streets between Namesti Republiky and Florenc Bus Station (e.g. Truhlarska Street, Soukenicka Street, or Petrske Namesti), and around Florenc Station itself. Room rates in the cheapest hotels in Prague city centre usually start around 30 euros per night. Most of these hotels are actually cheap 3 star (and sometimes 4 star) hotels rather than typical budget hotels.
