Legion Bridge (Most Legií)

Legion Bridge (Most Legií in Czech) connects Národní třída and National Theatre (on the right bank of the Vltava river) with Újezd and Lesser Quarter (on the left bank). On the way, Legion Bridge crosses over Střelecký Island (Střelecký ostrov), which is mainly a park and recreational area. There is frequent tram traffic on Legion Bridge.

How to Get to Legion Bridge

National Theatre, which is directly at the beginning of the bridge, is located at the end of Národní třída, on the bank of the Vltava between Smetanovo nábřeží (Smetana Embankment) and Masarykovo nábřeží (Masaryk Embankment). The tram stop directly in front of the main entrance to National Theatre is Národní divadlo (the Czech name of the theatre). The nearest metro station is Národní třída (line B – yellow) at the crossing of Národní and Spálená streets.

Views of Prague Castle

Crossing the bridge on foot is a pleasant walk with nice views of not only the National Theatre, but particularly Prague Castle together with Charles Bridge, which is the next bridge downstream. One bonus is that compared to Charles Bridge the Legion Bridge is much less crowded.

Two Bridges Circular Walk

The two bridges actually provide a nice circular walk around the river, passing several of Prague’s top attractions: Charles Bridge – Lesser Quarter Square – Infant Jesus of Prague – Újezd – the Memorial to the Victims of Communism – Legion Bridge – National Theatre – Smetanovo nábřeží (the embankment – some more views of Prague Castle) – back to Charles Bridge. It is about 3km in total and depending on your pace should take about an hour. If you get tired, there are tram services along the entire route except on Charles Bridge.
