Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge was built in the second half of the 14th century (completed in 1402) and it is the second oldest bridge in the Czech Republic. It was named after King Charles IV, who ordered its construction in 1357. Charles Bridge has withstood all floods throughout the centuries, including the recent big flood of Prague in 2002. According to legends, the bridge is so strong because eggs were used as one of the materials for Charles Bridge construction.

Tourism on Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge connects Prague Castle with Prague Old Town. It has 30 statues along its both balustrades. Mostly baroque, the statues depict various saints, patrons, and important people from Czech history. In the last years, both sides of Charles Bridge have also been full of stands selling souvenirs, street artists drawing portraits for tourists, and various street entertainers. As you can see, those people work even in frost and snow. However, so much snow on the Charles Bridge and in Prague city centre is very rare.
